8:27AM - The story so far...

I did this mostly so I could go back over what I'd written to help me get more ideas for future bits. The night was dark and threatening rain as StormChaser paced on the edge of the Birthing Meadow. His soulmate and lead mare,LeafGreen, was about to give birth to their first colt. The head Healer, WindBlown, and the Clan Leader, his sister SkyMaker were attending the birth since it was LeafGreen's first. StormChaster paced up and down, trampling the grass at the edge of the meadow flat beneath his shiny silvery-green hooves. No stallions were allowed in the meadow once a birthing had began and he was anxious for news of how things were going. There was a shrill whinny and a snort. StormChaser's eyes grew wide with fear, his nostrils flaring as he caught a strange scent. He tossed his head, shaking it, his silvery horn pointing like an antenna straight to heaven.

"You have a son.."SkyMaker called gently, trotting up to the anxious father. "I..I have a son?!?!"he asked, incredulous. His ears flicked back and forth, catching the soft sounds of LeafGreen whickering and licking the new baby dry. SkyMaker nodded, bowing to her brother,blue-green locks of hair falling into her eyes. "I HAVE A SON!" he shouted, rearing and pawing the sky. He ran around the edge of the meadow once, screaming out his jubilant news over and over until WindBlown finally caught up with him and whacked him in the flank with her nose.

"Stop that..they need their rest,StormChaser. And since he is YOUR son,you need to go up to Meditation Rock and pick a name for him."she reminded him, stopping the powerful chestnut stallion dead in his tracks. "Wha...oh. I forgot."he said, surprised. WindBlown nodded, pointing the trail with a forehoof. The trail led from the Birthing Meadow through the Forest of Dreams up to a high hilltop topped with a large, rounded boulder with a flattened top which was called the Meditation Rock. Taking his time, StormChaser followed the path which was well-worn from centuries of use. For as far back as the StoryKeepers could remember, the Woodbaby Herd of unicorns had lived in the Forest of Dreams and used Meditation Rock to make all important decisions, such as the naming of colts, deciding on Herd policy and new leaders. StormChaser approached it reverentially.

Moonlight shone on the Meditation Rock, bathing it in a soft glow. As he approached, StormChaser fell to his knees before the rock, resting his head on the top and closing his eyes. "Protectors of our Herd, give me guidance so that I may name my new son well. Give me a sign that shall tell me what I should name him..."his voice rang out strong and sure. All night, StormChaser lay there..waiting for a sign. As dawn approached, the sky grew lighter and it began to rain. The light rain soon soaked StormChaser's coat till it was almost black in color, but still he waited.

Suddenly, the sun broke through the clouds and the rain stopped. StormChaser looked up,opening his eyes against the brightness. In between his forehooves, a plant had sprung up where hadn't been one before. He knew this was his sign. "Thank you,Protector of the Herd. I know this is Your sign that I name my son Jareth, which is of the ancient mother tongue, meaning "Of Earth and Sky".

*Three long years passed*

"Catch me if you can,Father!" the three year old colt whinnied in a giggly voice as he raced through the Forest of Dreams where his entire Herd lived. His fur was soft and brown, perfectly matching the trees around him and giving him a perfect camoflauge, his silvery-green horn matching the light and flicker of the shadows filtering through the branches. The soft breeze lifted his white and brown mane off his neck, cooling him as he ran on and on, never wanting to stop. But finally, his father StormMaker caught up with him.
"I never thought I'd catch you. You're a good runner,my son."StormMaker panted,grinning, his eyes bright with pride.
"I know it,Father. Maybe..maybe this year I can go with the Midsummer Knight to the Adoption pens and find myself a human!"he cried, shaking his long neck in exuberation. StormMaker nodded.
"It is time, my son. Now I have never felt the urge to tie myself to a human, nor has your mother. But you've felt it since your birth. It has been very clear to us all this time, the way you talk about humans and want to know the humans at Whispering Winds castle. We both feel, as do your Harem Mothers, that this year, you should go on the Midsummer's Eve to find a human of your very own, Jareth. We give you our blessing..all of us. Your mother and your Harem Mothers SkyDark, LeafBare and DarkShadows." StormMaker said solemnly and Jareth immediately straightened up, his head nearly level with that of his tall father's.
"I..I can go?"the colt breathed softly, not believing what he was hearing. This was what he'd dreamed of his entire life..what he'd always wanted. What he wished on stars at night for. This was his fantasy come true..to find a human of his very own.
"You can,my son. And may Anu and Epona guide you and bless you all of your days."StormMaker lowered his horn and touched it on both of Jareth's shoulder as the young horse's eyes filled up with tears. His son was growing up, no longer a silly colt but a proud young stallion. And StormMaker knew he'd find a human of his own and that human would have to be very, very special. Because Jareth deserved only the best.

Ok..so I really don't like what I wrote in that last sort-of attempt at something. I'm not going to chuck it though in case I decide to use it later for something. I hate getting rid of anything!

8:45AM - Been putting off too long

I've been gathering ideas and I don't have much time to write today, but I will write what I can for the next part

"Cordelia! Hurry UP! We've got to get going if we're going to be there when the Woodbabies are adopted out!" called a woman, already hoisting herself into the seat of a worn-lookiing wagon next to her brawny husband, who was holding the reins of their two strong, yet gentle, oxen. Cordelia, her coppery ringlets flying behind her, came stumping out of the house as fast as her leg and crutch would allow her. Her right leg had been twisted and deformed since birth, but that never seemed to stop Cordelia from doing the things she wanted to.

Green eyes flashing, she let her mother assist her into the back of the wagon, where she made herself comfortable for the long drive to Knight'sBridge, where the annual Woodbaby adoptions were to be held. Once a year, on the eve of the longest day of the year, a knight known as the Midsummer's Knight, brought another group of Woodbaby unicorns from the forest to be adopted by the crowd. But he only brought 20 at a time and once they were all gone, they were gone for another year and you just had to wait to see if you'd get a chance again. And it wasn't a usual adoption, where you went and picked ou t the one you wanted and that was that. The unicorn picked its human.

Cordelia prayed and prayed that this year, THIS year, would be the year she was picked by a unicorn to be its human. She crossed her fingers, tied magic knots in her long coppery hair and prayed every prayer she knew in hopes that this time, she would be picked.

Ok..so I was thinking of changing what I've written on Ch.1 so far because I don't like it. I don't want to erase/edit that chapter so much as take what I wrote and change it somewhat to expand it,make it more descriptive.

8:13AM - Chapter one, take one

On the far side of Whispering Winds castle, deep in the heart of Windblown Forest lived a herd of unicorns. The herd was divided into Clans, each of which was led by a stallion and contained the stallion, his mares and any yearlings that might happen to be with them at that time. Leading the entire herd was a Clan Leader. And twice a year, the Clan Leader would pick a band of yearlings to be adopted out by the Knights who came from Whispering Winds castle. It had been so for countless generations of unicorns, so far back into time nobody could remember a time when it was not this way.

ThunderShaker was the head of his Clan and sister to SkyMaker, the Clan Leader at this time. He had two mares, LeafGreen and WindBlow as well as a male yearling named Jareth (which meant Of Earth and Sky in their language).Jareth was tall and spindly-legged, his coat a dusty, muddy brown for which the other yearlings teased him. They would kick dirt at him or poke them with their nub of a horn, calling "Ugly! Mud-coat! Your mama was a squirrel!", which hurt him deeply.

"Jareth..straighten up! Hold your head high and your tail straight. You'll never get picked by SkyMaker to be in this midsummer's chosen band if you don't straighten up!" his father bellowed gruffly, poking Jareth to make him stand straighter. Jareth lowered his eyes. "Yes father.."he said dejectedly. Even if he did get picked to go with the Knights on Midsummer's Eve to be adopted out at the Midsummer Festival, he was sure no girl or boy would want to adopt him. He was ugly. Or at least that's what HE thought.

I'm going to revise this later. I'm not really sure if I like the way it's going.I need to use what I've written and expand it more to make it th e entire first chapter.

4:48PM - Brainstorming #1

I need story ideas and when you need story ideas, my English and Lit teachers always used to say you need to brainstorm, throw out ideas at random to see what hits the wall and sticks (kinda like cooked spaghetti).

So..let's see.

I could use the "Home for Jareth" story as a base, sort of like a jumping off point. That's already a done deal and I'm sure I could get a lot of mileage out of it.

So let's start at the very beginning, it's a very fine place to start.

Chapter One Brainstorm

Use "A Home For Jareth" as story base
Break HFJ into bits to see what sticks and what needs work
Come up with ideas to extrapolate HFJ into at least 10 chapters worth of material.

What's part of HFJ?
Characters--mainly Jareth, the Midsummer Knight and Cordelia
Where do they go from that story? Home with Cordelia, as in "Jareth and Sara"? Or does Jareth go back to the MK and they have adventures throughout the Dark Forest of Dreams?
Dark Forest of Dreams--home of the Woodbaby band of Unicorns, dragons and cat pixies (aka Sara's band)
How many chars for this novel? Five? Ten?
Three FOUR already--Jareth,Sarah,MK and Cordelia
How to bridge HFJ and JaS more successfully so that HFJ becomes chapter 1 and JaS becomes chapter 2?
More about Jareth's band, the Woodbabies--leader,Jareth's parents and brothers/sisters?
Element of evil--protaganist for Jareth/MK/Cordelia as antagonists??? Evil warlord/warlock/witch???
Where does the story go after JaS ends? Where CAN it go from there?

9:51PM - Here goes nothing..

I've already written two short stories about my MKD Woodbabies Jareth and Sara. Now I'm contemplating writing a book. All of my ideas, story scraps and writers' block frustrations will most likely end up here.

So ta for now..I'm going to bed and will probably add some of my first stuff tomorrow.
